Nana’s Coffee takes great pride in our all-in-one process, giving that farm-to-table experience. Our premium coffee is sourced, harvested, naturally dried, roasted, and packaged all in one location! We want to maintain the integrity of the coffee and support the local farmers and producers of this region in Dominican Republic.

It’s where Al’s family is originally from and honoring his heritage; more importantly, beloved mother, “Nana.”

Sourcing & Harvesting

Our premium coffee originates from hand-picked and harvested coffee cherries by local farmers in the highest mountain ranges at an altitude of nearly 4,000ft in Dominican Republic. The coffee cherries come from 100% arabica coffee plants. The climate in this region is known to be tropical, rich farmland, and an ideal location to cultivate coffee plants.

*Fun Fact: Did you know the coffee bean is the seed of a fruit called “coffee cherry?” The whole coffee cherries are collected and cleaned prior to the drying process. The seed is not removed from the fruit till after the drying process is completed.

Drying Process

After sourcing and harvesting, the coffee cherries are naturally sundried in greenhouses without the intervention of machines and water to remove the fruit from the seed. This process can also be referred to as the “natural process” and can take up to up to 3 weeks. The fruit begins to dry up and the seed will be separated from the fruit during the dry milling and filtering process.

Roasting

The roasting of our premium coffee is prepared in-house at the production site. After the drying and filtering process, the local farmers and workers roast the whole coffee beans at a temperature range of 200˚ F to 480˚ F to ensure the quality of the selected roast blend reaches it optimal level. At this time, we selected a premium medium blend roast and hope to explore other roasts in the future.

Packaging

Our coffee products are packaged by local workers with premium double-walled bags with one-way valve to ensure freshness and aroma retention. This process is manually done, sealed, and inspected to assure every bag is tailor fit for you.

*Fun Fact: If your coffee bag looks scratched or imperfect, remember that it has been packed and touched by the hands of the local farmers and workers. Our goal is to maintain the integrity of our coffee and create a direct connection between farmers to consumers by removing the middleman.

Tasting

Let’s taste it! The taste reflects notes of caramel, cherry, and sweetness. It is an aromatic medium blend coffee containing a velvety, smooth, and full-bodied taste with low acidity. This vibrant profile of notes brings back memories of home in Latin America. Enjoy it!

*Fun Fact: Believe it or not - Everybody has their own taste notes for coffee! This depends on an individual’s palate and personal experiences of taste, food, and/or aromas. The tasting notes on a coffee bag are generally selected by a roaster or group of people who generate a consensus of notes. In other words, it’s up to you what you taste and decide what notes you find you will discover!
